  Myths About Weight Loss

Any of those myths about weight loss can seriously affect someone's weight as well as general health. As a large number of these myths are present out there, the more you know about these better will be your weight loss plan in future. Let us discuss some of these in brief:

  • “The products labeled “natural” are always safe”

Remember that these products generally do not undergo any scientific tests and can have adverse effect as well. Ephedra was included in some weight loss products but is now banned by federal authorities as it was found unhealthy. Although ephedra is banned still there are products having ingredients which are not precisely ephedra but very similar to it. Hence, before undergoing any weight loss course, consult your doctor for an initial advice.

  • “One can still lose weight even while eating whatever he/she wants”

The only thing you have to monitor is the number of calories you are taking in. Do some exercise to ensure that you are burning more calories than you are getting. By taking low calorie foods and increasing your physical activity, you can lose your weight significantly.

  • “If the product is labeled low fat , it will have no calories at all”

Actually these can be having low calories but some processed low-fat diets can have just as many calories as the high-fat ones. These may be coated with sugar or flour that increases the calories. So it is better to analyze the nutrition labels on the products to calculate the exact amount of calories.

  • “Fast foods are bad and should not be taken while following a diet program”

You can take that but not in large quantities as a full fledge meal. Why not to split it in parts and share it with your spouse? Avoid the cold drinks and have water instead. Also avoid having cheese and sauce in the fast foods.

  • “Dinner after 8pm leads to weight gain”

Again the calorie concept works. It may possible that late night dinner lead to some weight gain but the thing which matters is that how many calories you have taken in. It's good to avoid snacks while watching television.

  • “Weightlifting add weight to the body”

No, it can help losing the weight. Lifting the weights helps you to build muscles and burns calories.
