A Report from the US Accounting Office

A report coming in from the Unite States Accounting Office told just how easy it was to get anabolic type steroids from the Internet without a prescription. The type of steroids commonly used by bodybuilders and many athletes could easily be purchased on any one of literally hundreds of websites.

What was Done

An e-mail account with a name that was not real was used to place several orders. Shipments of anabolic steroids came in from several foreign countries, a few shipments came from the United States but when it was investigated it was found by the Food and Drug Association that the products that they contained were mismarked and did not contain any anabolic steroids.

Most of the illegal sales in the United States are shipped in from foreign countries; and the conclusion was the easiest way to obtain them or sell them is over the Internet. After the investigation any evidence that was accumulated was handed over to the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Administration. 

The Laws are Difficult to Enforce

Because the steroids are coming in from foreign countries and the Internet is so widely used in this type of drug trafficking it is very hard to enforce the regulations and laws and it takes extensive resources along with a huge amount of time to try and investigate and convict the cases that come in.

Just the sheer volume of the many different types of imported goods from overseas represents an unheard of challenge and an incredible effort to prevent the illegal entry of steroids into the United States. Add to this the fact that when ever a procession is accomplished the sentence is usually light and considering the amount of work, money and effort that goes into the conviction it is discouraging.

It’s very hard to stop illegal drug trafficking that goes on over the Internet and so the selling of steroids goes on. The sentences for those distributing steroids and other penalties are very much lighter in comparison to those convicted by other means. The computers not only aid in the selling and buying of the drugs but also aid in the detection of the law.

Because Internet websites can be so easily set up, removed or just a change of name and URL is not hard to accomplish it makes it extremely difficult for the law to track and shut them down.
